On the way to yourself

Be on the move and find yourself - the Sebaldusweg combines cycling pilgrimages with nature experiences. You cycle through the valleys around the Kalkalpen National Park, through the Eisenwurzen to the Mostviertel. Churches, small mountain chapels and quiet places of power accompany you along the way and invite you to pause for a moment.

Whether alone or in a group: this star-shaped tour thrives on the alternation of pedalling and resting. Take a deep breath, organise your thoughts, drink water - and continue. The impulses of the stages have a lasting effect and provide clarity and inner peace.

Time out & refreshments

Sacred buildings offer coolness and tranquillity. Inns and guesthouses invite you to take a break and savour regional cuisine. The Sebaldusweg combines exercise, contemplation and hospitality - in the heart of Upper Austria, where the power of nature, culture and joie de vivre come together. The Sebaldus tour package offers additional service and comfort.

The seven cycle pilgrimage routes

Seven tours lead in a star shape from Weyer or Gaflenz through the multifaceted landscape between Upper and Lower Austria. You cycle on cycle paths, quiet side roads and well-developed goods roads in the 360° Alpine region. Each stage is available as a short version with around 35-40 km or as a longer version with around 55-70 km. E-bike, trekking or gravel bike - many options are available, even without a motor depending on your fitness level.

Interesting facts about cycling holidays in Upper Austria's Pyhrn-Priel holiday region

Luggage transport is not necessary, as the cycle tours are organised so that you start at the same place every day and therefore stay in the same accommodation.

Do you already know our holiday package? You can find all the information here.

Yes, there is a holiday package for 4 days/3 nights. The hosts in Gaflenz and Weyer put together a harmonious bike package that combines relaxing time-outs, regional moments of pleasure and active experiences - with plenty of individual freedom as well as service, comfort and safety. You can find more information here.

The cycle routes are available in two versions: The shorter ones are around 35-40 kilometres long and the longer ones from around 55 to 70 kilometres.

The routes are mainly on cycle paths, minor roads with little traffic and well-maintained goods roads in the 360° Alpine region. The route lengths and altitude metres are designed so that the day tours are easily manageable with e-bikes. Mountain bikes are not required; good trekking bikes are also suitable. Trained riders can also manage the routes without a motor.

For environmental reasons, elaborate signposting has been omitted along the route. All 7 cycle routes can be found on the cycle map or on the website www.sebaldustour.at. Each route is described in detail and can be downloaded as a GPX file. Get the free cycle pilgrimage map here.

St Sebald of Nuremberg on the Heiligenstein

The namesake of the Sebaldus Tour

According to legend, Sebald was a miracle-working hermit who found his way to the Heiligenstein on his pilgrimage from Rome to Nuremberg, where he lived in his cave for 15 years. His canonisation in 1425 led to a strong upswing in pilgrimage. The chapel built in his honour in 1413 was converted into a church around 1470.

People also like to visit the chapel behind the church and the rock niche with the stone figure of St Sebald. People pray here for a good partnership or protection and blessing for their families.

Yes, from Vienna/NÖ via Amstetten (direct connections at weekends), or Salzburg/Linz via Amstetten to the railway stations Gaflenz and Weyer.
